Handpan Academy is celebrating it’s official permanent opening with an exclusive combination of workshops and concerts and handpan trials on june 8 and 9th near Brussels.

Handpan Academy will present it’s now exclusive location for workshops an concerts in a permanent settings. The location will be available for players and makers from all over the world to organize workshops, concerts and trial days. We will have a permanent set of handpans for trial and identical D Kurd 9 for workshops.
Tom Vaylo - Earth Child
Embark on a colorful musical trip throughout the world to the sound of Handpan (Hang), mixed with electronic psybient music and various other acoustic instruments (guitar, singing bowl, world percussions,...). Loris Lombardo
Loris Lombardo was born in Savona, Italy, in 1985. A multi-percussionist, drummer, composer as well as the founder of the first Academy of handpan in Italy and author of the first handpan manual in the world, “HANDPAN. The Complete Manual” (Handpan Manuale Completo). Searcher of sounds and musical timbres, Loris Lombardo’s music is the result of the constant evolution of his experience as a musician, which began with the study of drums and then of classical percussion at the G.F Ghedini Conservatory of Music - where he graduated with full honours -, and soon moved onto the study of traditional multi-cultural music, leading him to gain the knowledge of unconventional concepts and sounds and allowing him to eventually create his own original and groundbreaking style.
Winner of numerous international contests, he has his one-man show: “Handpan & Percussions Concert”. He holds workshops and courses all over Italy and Europe with the aim to spread the culture of this new and captivating instrument - the handpan.
Idekhis - Free play
As IDEKHIS, Leo Trincabelli and Darren Dyke perform music that is entirely improvised. Handpan and other acoustic sound sources are captured and transformed, intentionally with real time digital processing tools.
Lurking inside these systems are chance elements that act almost as a third member of the group, feeding back melodies, textures and rhythms to which we then respond.
As IDEKHIS we embrace the unexpected, and play with our ever evolving emotional states in free improvisations that are unique and fleeting - to be shared only once.

Workshops
Workshops will be organized in 2 group levels, beginners and experienced players. Both Leonardo and Tom will adapt their content based on the level of the groups.
Each will give 4 workshops of 2 hours each, so every group will have 8 hours of workshops over the weekend. In between the workshops is time for practice, groups acts, jams & drinks. Some of the topics: Composition, playing techniques, Jammin’ tips, handpan and electronic music…
Camping & accommodation
There is limited possibility to stay onsite, we have some camping spaces, and some indoor sleeping space, if you bring your own gear. There is 1 shower and toilets available. Please note that you are staying in a residential area, and be respectful to the neighbors. Jamming is OK, but inside after 10 pm.

Performers
Leonardo Trincabelli
For over 15 years I have been performing on and promoting the Hang and Handpan. I, along with a small number of others have the distinction of
being among the first musicians who sought out the original Hangs in the early days of their creation. I have shared my love of music and of the Handpan through performances, recordings and workshops and have made numerous albums both as a soloist and with groups. I continue to seek new opportunities to teach perform and share music and with IDEKHIS I see a new venue to explore ideas and concepts that I have been developing for my whole career.
Darren Dyke
My relationship with the Steel Pan and subsequently, the Handpan began in 1986 as a Steel Pan performer and composer. Since 1996 I have worked as a tuner and craftsman of Steel Drums and more recently, of Handpans.
In recent years Electronic Music production has become an increasingly important part of my creative life and during the last 6 year hiatus from performing I have released 4 official albums and a number of singles of self produced electronic music. Now the urge to create and share musicin a live context has resurfaced with IDEKHIS, in collaboration with Leo Trincabelli which I see as the logical next step in my music journey.
Tom Vaylo
Tom Vaylo is an acoustic musician since his very young age (flute, saxophone, guitar, handpan, percussions, ...) who then got into electronic music. In his quest for new ways of sharing his love for music, and taking the audience with him on a musical trip, he now mixes both, adding handpan playing to track living on stage, each track being inspired by one of his own travel.
